The influence of Digital
If your reading this document, its because you already know that companies are going through a global realization – how we communicate and manage relationships has changed more in the last decade that it has in the last 100 years. This has all been brought about by the Digital Revolution and it isn’t going to slow down.
Widespread adoption and use of technology by the consumer and target customer now means that people can research, buy and recommend through the plethora of information channels that technology has made available.
Product and Service providers along with their brands are now heavily influenced not just by the traditional marketing methods that we have come to know, but increasingly so through Digital means.
Not only are they now influenced due to the shear availability of information, but, through mediums such as the internet, they can be influenced in real-time.
There are already many examples of this – consumer has a bad experience and association with a brand and decides to post a video on YouTube to voice his opinion and tell his story. The video is watched by 5 million viewers within a few days. The brand is slated and costs the brand owners large unbudgeted amounts of money to repair. On the flip side, a customer has great experience with a brand and finds a very cool competition site that has been set up by the product/brand owners that shows an enticing video clip. He decides to spread the word through all the social networks that he belongs to which in-turn creates positive word-of-mouth marketing. The Viral campaign achieves great ROI.
The point is, companies that are creating and selling their brands, have to have a strategy that integrates Traditional and Digital methods. We call this a Digital Brand Architecture.
